Thousands of car enthusiasts and families descended on the Sylvanvale Pre WWII Car Show on Sunday for a day of vintage cars, food stalls and raffles. It was a day of fun, colourful costumes, and celebration of days gone by.
The show is now in its eighth year, and was started by Sutherland Shire resident, Ken Warburton. Ken’s mother and father were part of the founding group of parents who established Sylvanvale in 1947.
Ken had several of his own vehicles on display at the event including a 1931 Model A Ford Slant Window 4 door Town sedan, a 1931 Model A Ford 2 door Delux Tudor sedan, and a 1923 Oldsmobile “Six” Model 30 2 door Sports Roadster. Ken’s 1930 Model A Ford Special Delivery Van was also featured which Sutherland Shire Mayor, Carmelo Pesce, and Federal Member for Hughes, Jenny Ware, stopped by to admire.
Awarded Best in Show was Ray Schwarze with his 1934 Nash 4 door Tourer.
Paul and Ramona took home the prize for Entrant’s Choice for their recently restored 1934 Morris Minor (Morrie).
Retired firefighter Guy was a big hit with the kids who enjoyed getting behind the wheel of his vintage fire engine.
Batman took time out from fighting crime to attend the show. Whilst his Batmobile didn’t quite qualify as Pre WWII, it was all in the name of fun and smiles for the kids.
The Sylvanvale Pre WWII Car Show is an annual event that raises funds for people with disability in the Sutherland Shire. This year the event raised over $47,000 which will go towards the purchase and modification of a new wheelchair accessible van that will enable people with disability to access the community.
