Sylvanvale officially opened its new state-of-the-art, luxury properties in Bangor for people with disability in a special ceremony that took place on Tuesday 26 April 2022. The $5 million development, which comprises six homes, will accommodate eight people eligible for Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Sylvanvale’s patron, Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC, unveiled a plaque to mark the official opening.
The dwellings have been designed to support people with significant disabilities to live in their own home with as much independence as possible. The homes are all assistive technology ready and follow universal design principles – which include height adjustable features in the kitchen, bathroom and laundry.
The homes feature carefully designed living spaces to provide residents with open, and private areas that can be comfortably shared with guests. Residents will have access to support from Sylvanvale staff, if required.
The properties will be life-changing for the new residents, including brothers John and Paul Mokeeff, who will be able to live together for the first time since they left home to move into disability accommodation more than 30 years ago.
The official opening event was attended by many special guests including Sylvanvale supporters, our Board of Directors, life members, the project team, families, the people we support and staff.
